Oh that one. I dont have the PSD for that one. If I can remember I think I use a black bg and a purple color for the rose and maybe I used blend mode: Multiply.
Then maybe try this. Create a new layer under the rose and select a feathered round brush and sent the opacity down to maybe 40% then color behind the rose.

The feathered round brush color needs to be a light color like white or light purple.

I have CS4. Im guessing you did a purple rose on a black background with a low opacity white on top?
Are you talking about the color of the roses? That image was built with PhotoShop. I have the PSD if you want it.
